Abstract
Purpose: We tried to inform the public of the risk of cataracts and the importance of preventive management through the prediction of changes in the prevalence of cataract.

Methods: We have done a comparative analysis Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Report in the last five years from 2008 to 2012.

Results: The prevalence of cataract by age group got increased according to their age increases and was 11.1% in 40-49 ages, 35.7% in 50-59 ages, 71.8% in 60-69 ages, and 94.2% in over 70 ages(p=0.00). Especially, for the male 50-59 ages, the prevalence has increased 13.0% from 35.7% in 2008 to 48.2% in 2012. When comparing dong and eup regions, it found that dong was 39.5% and eup was 51.5%(p=0.00). When comparing income group, low group was 43.1%, lower middle group was 42.9%, upper middle group was 41.6% and high group was 40.7%.

Conclusions: We found a significant difference between men and women in the prevalence of cataract over 65 ages(p=0.02). However, the difference is gradually decreasing and it have particular relevance to rapid growth of cataract prevalence rate in men aged 50s.
